Creating a Geofence
Users will be asked to provide the following information when creating a geofence:
- Main category
- Name: Name the geofence
- Description: Description of the geofence
- Color: Set the display color of the overlay for the geofence
- Do not synchronize with assets: Disables the automatic synchronization of this geofence with remote assets. By default, when you create a geofence plus an alert, and the remote devices supports geofence calculations, the geofence will be sent to the remote device.
- Add segment/shape: Click the map to create the geofence
- Segments: List of existing geofence area(s) and the ability to delete those shapes
- Users: Opens a drop-down menu with a list of portal users and their access to the geofence.
- Extra: Allows users to add a photo to the geofence.
How it Works: Drawing Geofences
Adding Segments to Geofences as part of the creation process requires users to click the Map to create custom shapes or circles. To create a custom shape, select the polygon tool and click points on the Map until you’ve made a complete shape.
Adding circular Segments to Geofences requires the user to click two points on the Map. The first point is the center of the circle to be added as part of the Geofence, and the second point is the radial edge of the circle. The circle will complete itself around the center point based on the radius drawn.
Users can add as many Segments as they wish to form one complete Geofence, and these segments can be any combination of polygon or circular areas. Any overlapping space in the Segments will not display as separate areas in the final Geofence. Only the outer lines will display.
Geofences - Expanded
Geofences have advanced functionality, supported by the tools in the Details Panel. Clicking the Cog icon on any Geofence opens the Details Panel.
Send Message: Gives users the ability to send the same message to all Assets in the Geofence simultaneously. History Replay: Opens History Mode and prompts the user to select a time frame to view the Assets’ previously reported positions. Populates with the Assets that are inside the Geofence. Group Assets: Creates a Group including all Assets inside the Geofence at the time of creation. Add Alert: Opens the Add Alert page with a pre-populated filter labeled “inside fence” with the selected Fence. Asset Location Report: Opens the Asset Location Report page with all Assets currently in the Geofence as the toggled filter. Users can view and export the Report from that page. This option will appear greyed out when there are no Assets in the Geofence. Edit Group: Users can edit any of the attributes assigned to the Group when created, including adding and removing devices from the Group, changing its name and color, and changing the Users that have access to it. Delete Group: Users can permanently delete the Group directly from the Details Panel. Once deleted, Groups cannot be recovered, and will have to be added back to the portal manually via the Add Item module.
